FireMed Ambulance Membership

The FireMed program is undergoing changes! Online applications will not be available for the duration of the current subscription cycle.

The following changes will take effect July 1, 2017.

SLCFR Firemed allows two (2) uses for medically necessary ambulance transports per household member, per membership year. If the SLCFR Firemed subscriber is transported to Cottage Grove Hospital by SLCFR, and within a twenty-four (24) hour period, is transferred to a higher level of care, as a result of the original condition, SLCFR Firemed will allow membership benefit to be used, and not counted toward the maximum use of two (2) times per household member, per membership year.

SLCFR Firemed will discount the bill 50% for subscribers without insurance coverage, who are transported to a hospital. This benefit is available twice per household member, per membership year.

SLCFR Firemed allows one (1) non-transport related charge per household member, per membership year. Once the maximum of one (1) non-transport related charge is covered within a membership year for a household member, no further non-transport related charges will be covered by SLCFR FIREMED for that household member, for the remainder of the membership year.

Firemed household membership benefits cover you, your spouse or domestic partner and dependents claimed on your income tax return and that live in the same household.  Elderly or disabled family members living in the same household are also covered.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE THE TERMS OF AGREEMENT?

Click here to read the full Terms of Agreement.

What Does FireMed Have To Do With My Insurance?

Through your FireMed membership you authorize FireMed to bill your insurance whenever you or a household member uses an ambulance. Insurance can cover little or nothing, with an overall range of 50-80% coverage. Medicare and private insurance usually leave various parts of the bill unpaid. FireMed picks up all costs not covered by your insurance and the whole cost if you have no insurance.

Why Does FireMed Bill My Insurance?

Billing the insurance of those who use ambulance service helps keeps your membership fee affordable. The cost of operating ambulance service on behalf of members is far greater than the membership fees received.

Do I have Insurance Papers to fill Out?

Not normally. FireMed staff does the work for you. Your membership authorizes us to bill your insurance.

What if My Insurance doesn’t cover the entire Ambulance Bill?

FireMed pays the rest! There are no hidden costs. If a reciprocal agreement with another Oregon ambulance provider is in place, you are covered under that ambulance provider's terms of agreement.

Can I Drop My Regular Insurance Because I Have FireMed?

No. FireMed covers only ambulance service fees — not doctor and hospital bills or any other medical expense.

Do I Have To Have Health Insurance?

No. If you have no insurance, FireMed covers your whole bill.

When does my Firemed membership expire?

Firemed membership expires on June 30 of each year regardless of the application submission date.
