Press Release: Structure Fire in Cottage Grove

South Lane County Fire and Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 73677 Mosby Creek Rd. Cottage Grove. The home was occupied at the time of the fire and the occupants reported the fire began in the kitchen area of the home where they were actively preparing food. The Fire District responded with six pieces of fire apparatus and thirteen firefighters. Upon arrival of the first units the home had active fire and smoke coming from the kitchen area of the home. Firefighters were able to control the fire quickly upon arrival. The fire is being investigated by the fire district Fire Marshal and the Oregon State Fire Marshalls Office to determine the cause. The fire caused significant damage to the home and its contents. One occupant in the home suffered burn injuries and was treated by South Lane County Paramedics and later treated at a local hospital. South Lane County Fire and Rescue would like to remind everyone that fires while cooking are not uncommon, and home owners should always be prepared with a fire extinguisher and working smoke detector.
