Firefighters go Pink
Because many fire fighters or their families have been affected by cancer, it’s an important issue for members of South lane County Fire and Rescue so they have traded navy blue duty shirts for pink T-shirts in October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for breast cancer in the U.S. for calendar year 2012 are over 250,000 new cases. In addition over 39,000 women will die from this disease. Of all women 1 in 8 will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Unfortunately 1 in 35 will die from it. This disease affects more of us than we realize, in fact 2100 MEN will be diagnosed in calendar year 2012. Over 450 of them will die this year from the disease. So you can see breast cancer is not just a women’s disease.
In support, South Lane County Firefighters will be switching from our traditional navy blue uniform tee shirts to PINK!
