South Lane County Fire & Rescue (SLCF&R) proudly serves both residents and visitors in Creswell, Cottage Grove and rural South Lane County. SLCF&R provides fire protection, rescue, emergency medical services, fire prevention and code enforcement services, per ORS Chapter 478. SLCF&R is located just south of the Eugene / Springfield area of western Oregon, along the I-5 corridor. The areas previously served by the Cottage Grove Fire Department, the Creswell Rural Fire Department, and the South Lane Rural Fire Department, were merged into the South Lane County Fire and Rescue district in 2003.
Early Morning House Fire in Cottage Grove

South Lane County Fire and Rescue responded to an early morning house fire at 1136 South Second Street Cottage Grove at 4:17 AM this morning. The occupants of the home were not in the home at the time of the fire. Upon arrival of the first fire apparatus, they found the home fully involved with fire. South Lane County Fire Rescue responded with three fire engines, one ambulance and two command vehicles. A total of fifteen firefighting personnel responded. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at approximately $220,000. Firefighting personnel were able to control the fire to the home of origin with no damage to surrounding homes. A routine fire investigation in being performed by the Fire District Fire Marshal and the cause of the fire appears accidental at this time.
South Lane County Fire and Rescue is led by Fire Chief Dean Creech and staffed by both career and volunteer firefighters. We provide EMS response to 800 square miles and fire response to 132 square miles of South Lane County. SLCF&R responds to over 3,000 calls for help every year, operating out of four fire stations.
