South Lane County Fire and Rescue Board of Directors accepted Fire Chief Dean Creech’s resignation last night, with an effective date of June 20th, 2014. Chief Creech said “My departure is based on a family decision, and in no way reflects any issues within the District. The District is fiscally sound, the Board of Directors and the staff are insuring service is delivered at a high level”.

South Lane County Fire & Rescue would like to recognize and congratulate Captain Steve Thoreson on his recent retirement. Captain Thoreson has been a South Lane firefighter for close to 30 years.

One of South Lane County Fire & Rescue’s engineers also recently accepted a position with another agency.

Thank you to everyone who showed up for the Firefighter Stairclimb Pancake Breakfast! 

A total of $2000 was raised Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.


Career and volunteer personnel from South Lane County Fire & Rescue responded to eighty-seven winter storm related emergencies during a seventy-two hour period this past weekend. The fire district normally averages nine emergency responses a day. The majority of the calls were attributed to non-injury motor vehicle accidents and downed power lines.

Five of our career and volunteer firefighters will be participating in this year's Scott Firefighter Stairclimb. This annual event is where participants race up 69 flights of stairs in full fire gear and SCBA. This will take place in the Columbia Center located in Seattle, Washington on March 9th, 2014.
